Once a computer becomes infected, TGVV proceeds to encrypt files and adds the “.tgvv” extension to their original filenames. For instance, a file named “a.jpg” would be renamed as “a.jpg.tgvv“, while “b.doc” would be transformed into “b.doc.tgvv“.

The virus also saves two text files on the victim’s computer that provide attack-related details: the victim’s public encryption key and personal ID. These two files are named bowsakkdestx.txt and PersonalID.txt.

After implementing these modifications, the malware does not cease its activities. Variants of STOP/DJVU often deploy the Vidar password-stealing Trojan on compromised systems. This threat possesses an extensive range of capabilities, including:
- Stealing login/password information for Steam, Telegram, and Skype
- Stealing cryptocurrency wallets
- Downloading and running malware on the compromised computer
- Stealing browser cookies, saved passwords, and browsing history
- Viewing and manipulating files on the victim’s computer
- Enabling hackers to perform various tasks on the victim’s computer remotely
The DJVU/STOP ransomware family uses the AES-256 cryptography algorithm. Therefore, if your files have been encrypted with an online decryption key, it is impossible to decrypt them without the unique key.
