RA Ransomware 🔐 (.RAWLD File) — Removal Guide

The Ra virus falls within the ransomware type of malicious agent. Ransomware of such sort encrypts all the data on your PC (images, text files, excel sheets, music, videos, etc) and appends its own extension to every file, creating the Data breach warning.txt files in each folder which contains the encrypted files.

Ra virus: what is known so far?

Ra appends its extra .RAWLD extension to the name of every encrypted file. For example, an image named “photo.jpg” will be renamed to “photo.jpg.RAWLD”. Just like the Excel table named “table.xlsx” will end up as “table.xlsx.RAWLD”, and so forth.

In each folder containing the encoded files, a Data breach warning.txt file will appear. It is a ransom money note. It contains information about the ways of paying the ransom and some other remarks. The ransom note usually contains a description of how to buy the decryption tool from the tamperers. You can get this tool after contacting Telegram contact by email. That is basically the scheme of the malefaction.

How did my machine catch Ra ransomware?

There are many possible ways of ransomware infiltration.

Nowadays, there are three most popular ways for criminals to have the Ra virus planted in your digital environment. These are email spam, Trojan infiltration and peer networks.

  • If you access your inbox and see letters that look just like notifications from utility services companies, postal agencies like FedEx, web-access providers, and whatnot, but whose addresser is unknown to you, beware of opening those letters. They are very likely to have a harmful item enclosed in them. Thus it is even more dangerous to open any attachments that come with letters like these.
  • Another option for ransom hunters is a Trojan virus scheme. A Trojan is a program that gets into your computer disguised as something different. For example, you download an installer of some program you want or an update for some service. However, what is unpacked turns out to be a harmful agent that corrupts your data. As the installation file can have any name and any icon, you have to make sure that you can trust the resource of the stuff you’re downloading. The best thing is to trust the software companies’ official websites.
  • As for the peer-to-peer networks like BitTorrent or eMule, the threat is that they are even more trust-based than the rest of the Web. You can never know what you download until you get it. So you’d better be using trustworthy resources. Also, it is a good idea to scan the directory containing the downloaded objects with the anti-malware utility as soon as the downloading is complete.

How do I get rid of ransomware?

It is important to inform you that besides encrypting your files, the Ra virus will probably deploy Vidar Stealer on your computer to seize your credentials to various accounts (including cryptocurrency wallets). The mentioned spyware can derive your logins and passwords from your browser’s auto-filling cardfile.

How сan I avert ransomware attack?

Ra ransomware has no endless power, so as any similar malware.

You can protect yourself from ransomware infiltration in three easy steps:

  • Ignore any letters from unknown mailers with unknown addresses, or with content that has likely no connection to something you are waiting for (can you win in a lottery without even taking part in it?). In case the email subject is more or less something you are expecting, check all elements of the questionable letter carefully. A fake email will always contain mistakes.
  • Do not use cracked or unknown programs. Trojan viruses are often distributed as a part of cracked products, possibly as a “patch” to prevent the license check. Understandably, untrusted programs are very hard to tell from reliable ones, as trojans sometimes have the functionality you need. You can try searching for information on this program on the anti-malware message boards, but the best way is not to use such software.

Frequently Asked Questions

🤔 How can I open “.RAWLD” files? Can I somehow access “.RAWLD” files?

Negative. That is why ransomware is so frustrating. Until you decode the “.RAWLD” files you will not be able to access them.

🤔 I really need to decrypt those “.RAWLD” files ASAP. How can I do that?

It’s good if you have fаr-sightedly saved copies of these important files elsewhere. If not, there is still a function of System Restore but it needs a Restore Point to be previously saved. There are other ways to beat ransomware, but they take time.

🤔 What to do if the Ra malware has blocked my computer and I can’t get the activation key.

🤔 What could help the situation right now?

Some of the encrypted data can be located elsewhere.

  • If you exchanged your critical files by email, you could still download them from your online mailbox.
  • You might have shared images or videos with your friends or relatives. Simply ask them to give those images back to you.
  • If you have initially downloaded any of your files from the Internet, you can try to do it again.
  • Your messengers, social media pages, and cloud disks might have all those files too.
  • It might be that you still have the needed files on your old PC, a portable device, phone, memory stick, etc.

HINT: You can use data recovery programs1 to retrieve your lost information since ransomware encodes the copies of your files, deleting the original ones. In the video below, you can learn how to use PhotoRec for such a restoration, but remember: you can do it only after you kill the virus with an anti-malware program.
