SNEA575 Virus 🔐 (Hacked by Snea575) Ransomware Removal

Written by Brendan Smith

The Snea575 virus falls under the Chaos ransomware family. Harmful software of such sort encrypts all the data on your computer (photos, text files, excel tables, audio files, videos, etc) and adds its own extension to every file, creating the README_txt.txt files in each folder with the encrypted files.

What is Snea575 virus?

☝️ A scientifically accurate description for the Snea575 would be “a Chaos family ransomware infection”.

Snea575 appends its own .hackedbySnea575 extension to the title of each encoded file. For instance, a file named “photo.jpg” will be altered to “photo.jpg.hackedbySnea575”. Likewise, the Excel table with the name “table.xlsx” will be renamed to “table.xlsx.hackedbySnea575”, and so forth.

In every directory containing the encoded files, a README_txt.txt text document will be found. It is a ransom money memo. It contains information on the ways of paying the ransom and some other information. The ransom note most probably contains instructions on how to purchase the decryption tool from the tamperers. You can obtain this decoding tool after contacting the Discord profile mentioned in the ransom note. That is it.

How did my PC catch Snea575?

There is a huge number of possible ways of ransomware injection.

There are currently three most popular ways for hackers to have the Snea575 virus settled in your system. These are email spam, Trojan introduction and peer networks.

If you open your inbox and see letters that look just like notifications from utility services providers, delivery agencies like FedEx, web-access providers, and whatnot, but whose mailer is unknown to you, be wary of opening those emails. They are very likely to have a viral item attached to them. Therefore, it is even more dangerous to download any attachments that come with emails like these.

Another thing the hackers might try is a Trojan virus model. A Trojan is a program that infiltrates into your computer disguised as something different. For example, you download an installer for some program you need or an update for some service. But what is unboxed turns out to be a harmful agent that encrypts your data. Since the installation file can have any title and any icon, you'd better be sure that you can trust the source of the files you're downloading. The optimal thing is to trust the software developers' official websites.

As for the peer networks like torrents or eMule, the threat is that they are even more trust-based than the rest of the Web. You can never know what you download until you get it. So you'd better be using trustworthy websites. Also, it is a good idea to scan the folder containing the downloaded objects with the antivirus as soon as the downloading is complete.

How to remove the Snea575 virus?

It is important to inform you that besides encrypting your data, the Snea575 virus will most likely install Vidar Stealer on your PC to seize your credentials to various accounts (including cryptocurrency wallets). The mentioned program can extract your credentials from your browser's auto-filling data.

Sometimes criminals would decode some of your files to prove that they indeed have the decryption tool. Since Snea575 virus is a relatively new ransomware, safety measures developers have not yet found a way to reverse its work. However, the anti-ransomware tools are constantly upgraded, so the effective countermeasure may soon arrive.

Of course, if the malefactors do the job of encoding someone's essential data, the hopeless person will most likely comply with their demands. However, paying a ransom does not necessarily mean that you're getting your data back. It is still risky. After obtaining the ransom, the racketeers may send a wrong decryption code to the injured party. There were reports about malefactors simply disappearing after getting the ransom without even writing back.

The optimal solution against ransomware is to have a system restore point or the copies of your critical files in the cloud drive or at least on an external drive. Obviously, that might be insufficient. Your most crucial thing could be that file you were working on when it all started. But at least it is something. It is also wise to scan your drives with the antivirus program after the system is rolled back.

Snea575 is not the only ransomware of its kind, since there are other specimens of ransomware out there that act in the same manner. For instance, Agvv, Agpo, Tgvv, and some others. The two basic differences between them and the Snea575 are the ransom amount and the method of encryption. The rest is the same: files become blocked, their extensions altered, ransom notes appear in every folder containing encoded files.

Some lucky users were able to decode the blocked files with the aid of the free tools provided by anti-malware specialists. Sometimes the hackers mistakenly send the decoding code to the victims in the ransom readme. Such an epic fail allows the victim to restore the files. But of course, one should never rely on such a chance. Remember, ransomware is a bandits' instrument to lay their hands on the money of their victims.

How сan I avert ransomware infection?

Snea575 ransomware has no superpower, so as any similar malware.

You can armour your PC from ransomware attack in three easy steps:

  • Never open any letters from unknown mailboxes with unknown addresses, or with content that has likely no connection to something you are waiting for (can you win in a lottery without participating in it?). If the email subject is more or less something you are waiting for, scrutinize all elements of the questionable email carefully. A fake letter will always contain mistakes.
  • Do not use cracked or untrusted software. Trojan viruses are often shared as a part of cracked software, most likely under the guise of “patch” to prevent the license check. Understandably, dubious programs are difficult to tell from trustworthy ones, as trojans sometimes have the functionality you seek. Try searching for information about this program on the anti-malware forums, but the best way is not to use such programs at all.
  • And finally, to be sure about the safety of the objects you downloaded, scan them with GridinSoft Anti-Malware. This program will be a powerful armor for your personal computer.

FAQ

🤔 How can I open ".hackedbySnea575" files? Can I somehow access ".hackedbySnea575" files?

🤔 I really need to decrypt those “.hackedbySnea575” files ASAP. How can I do that?

Hopefully, you have made a copy of those important files. Otherwise, you might try to employ System Restore. The only question is whether you have saved any Restore Points that would be helpful now. All other solutions require time.

🤔 You have advised using GridinSoft Anti-Malware to get rid of the Snea575 virus. Does it mean that all my files, currently encrypted, will be removed too?

Absolutely not! Unlike the ransomware program itself, the encrypted files do not jeopardize your system.

The ransomware that has attacked your PC is most likely still active and running scans periodically to encode any new files you might create on your PC after the attack. It installs backdoors and keyloggers that can take your account passwords by trespass and provide malefactors with easy access to your PC in the future.

🤔 What to do if the Snea575 malware has blocked my PC and I can't get the activation code.

In such a case, you need to prepare a memory stick with a pre-installed Trojan Killer. Use Safe Mode to do the cleaning. To stop this process - use Safe Mode, which allows only the vital programs to run automatically. Consider reading our manual on booting Windows in Safe Mode.

🤔 What can I do right now?

  • If you exchanged your important files via email, you could still download them from your online mail server.
  • You might have shared images or videos with your friends or relatives. Just ask them to post those images back to you.
  • If you have initially downloaded any of your files from the Web, you can try to do it again.
