What are Mograppid pop-up advertisements?

As the pop-up definition goes, these are short and small advertisements that attract your attention to a product they promote. But the difference between regular push notifications and Mograppid pop-ups is the malicious origins of the latter. Common pop-up advertisements are offered for you to enable on different sites with a legitimate purpose – keep you aware about the fresh publications, discounts and so on. It is an effective approach to help your site to keep visitors and help the interested visitors to have the best deal.

Mograppid pop-up notifications, as opposed, have a deal with less legit sites. You will commonly observe the offer to turn them on after a redirection from another page. Redirects are OK unless they throw you to such a dubious place. In this case, enabling pop-up ads is served as the anti-DDoS check-up. Alternatively, the sites may refuse to show you the contents unless you enable these pop-ups. These demands should already be the red flag, as websites commonly have a more convenient anti-bot mechanism. Spectating this demand should be the reason to leave the page right away. Sometimes, even when you click “Allow”, you will not get to the site – the only page it has is a landing page with the offer to turn on the pop-up notifications.

How does it work?

The majority of browsers support turning on pop-ups from websites. Websites, on the other hand, can send out notifications with the content of their choice. It may be an advertisement of the product posted on this site, or a promotion of the page of their partner. As a result, you can see the pop-up from site X, but opening it will throw you to website Y – because a link to the latter was added.

Cybercriminals bear on this feature in their attempt to gain money through advertising. They trick victims into allowing them to show the banners, and then just spread hundreds of ads of anyone they have a deal with. As you can suppose, no benevolent organisations will have a deal with fraudsters. All the Mograppid push ads you may see lead to other untrustworthy sites. At some point, the same user may get into a trap of multiple pop-up spamming sites, and its browser will turn into a complete mess.

The banners these rascals show are paid under the pay-per-view model. It usually provides a miserable payment for one person, but when you have hundreds of victims and show them hundreds of ads every day – that is a much bigger sum. Even though the majority of such banners giving no result at all, it may still give all the participants a lot of money.

Are Mograppid pop-ups dangerous?

Yes, they are. Initially, they may look harmless – just a blinking window that appears a couple times in an hour. However, the contents of this window differ sharply from what you generally see in push notifications. Mograppido.com web page is controlled by fraudsters, who intentionally spread hundreds and thousands of irrelevant ads in pop-ups. They also don’t follow any common sense and can launch sporadic push notifications into a hurricane of ads. For weak systems, that may be enough to make the system slower. But that is not all troubles these pop-up ads carry.

Why people dislike popups

As any other thing that touches illegal advertising, Mograppid pop-up advertisements don’t have legit offers. Even when crooks make the ads similar to ones from well-known retailers, the web page these ads will throw you to are completely different. And these pages may offer you to turn on other pop-ups, install a “useful” program, or pay for a thing at a big discount and never receive it. Let’s leave aside the cases when pop-up advertisements promote phishing pages or straightforward malware. There’s no way these pages will bring you any good, thus interacting with them is a very bad idea. For the same reason, Mograppid pop-up notifications are not recommended to click on either, and the best solution is to disable them as soon as possible.

How to remove Mograppid pop-ups?

Fortunately, Mograppid pop-up notifications removal is pretty easy. They sit in the web browser and cannot hide themselves among system files. Nonetheless, as I told above, some pop-ups can promote malware to your computer. It is nearly impossible to describe all cases, and manual attempts to remove malware is inconvenient. Therefore, after getting rid of the pop-up ads it is recommended to use anti-malware software. I would especially recommend that if you have never clicked “Allow” to pop-up ads, but they still appeared. This situation may point at malware activity. GridinSoft Anti-Malware will be the best both system recovery and malware removal purposes, because of its abilities of system recovery and superb detection system.

When the browsers are reset, you need to ensure that your browser will connect the right DNS while connecting to the site you need. Create a text file titled “hosts” on your pc’s desktop, then open it and fill it with the following lines2:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Find the hosts.txt file in C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc directory. Rename this file to “hosts.old.txt” (to distinguish it from the new one), and then move the file you created on the desktop to this folder. Remove the hosts.old from this folder. Now you have your hosts file as good as new.
