The large medical center Center Hospitalier Sud Francilien (CHSF), located 28 kilometers from the center of Paris and serving an area with a population of 600,000 people, has been hacked. Due to the hack, CHSF is forced to refer patients to other medical facilities and postpone elective surgeries.
Let me remind you that we also reported death due to ransomware attack: German hospital patient died.
The technical details of the incident were not disclosed, but it is known that the failure caused by the attack continues to this day. Therefore, patients that need emergency care are examined by CHSF doctors, but if their condition requires diagnostic imaging, people are referred to other medical centers.
According to Le Monde, which cites its own local law enforcement sources, the hacker who attacked CHSF demanded a ransom of $10,000,000 from the hospital administration in exchange for a decryption key.
According to journalists, now this case has been transferred to the Parisian gendarmerie, or rather, to specialists from the Center for Combating Cybercrime (C3N). Because of this, it is assumed that the ransomware groups LockBit 3.0 or Rangar Locker may be behind the attack, since it is C3N experts who usually deal with these ransomware attacks. It should be noted that LockBit 3.0 strictly prohibits its “partners” and affiliates from attacking and encrypting the systems of healthcare providers.
