DOYUK Virus Files of Ransomware — How to remove virus?

Written by Brendan Smith
The Doyuk virus falls within the ransomware type of infection. Malware of this type encrypts all the data on your PC (images, text files, excel sheets, audio files, videos, etc) and adds its specific extension to every file, leaving the Warning.txt files in every directory containing encrypted files.

What is known about the Doyukvirus?

☝️ A strictly correct description for the Doyuk is “a ransomware malicious agent”.

Doyuk will add its specific .doyuk extension to the name of each encrypted file. For example, an image entitled “photo.jpg” will be altered to “photo.jpg.doyuk”. Likewise, the Excel sheet with the name “table.xlsx” will end up as “table.xlsx.doyuk”, and so on.

In every folder with the encoded files, a Warning.txt notebook file will be found. It is a ransom money note. It contains information about the ways of paying the ransom and some other information. The ransom note most probably contains instructions on how to buy the decryption tool from the racketeers. That is it.

How did Doyuk ransomware end up on my PC?

There is a huge number of possible ways of ransomware infiltration.

There are currently three most popular ways for hackers to have the Doyuk virus working in your digital environment. These are email spam, Trojan injection and peer file transfer.

If you open your mailbox and see emails that look like familiar notifications from utility services providers, postal agencies like FedEx, web-access providers, and whatnot, but whose addresser is unknown to you, beware of opening those letters. They are very likely to have a viral file enclosed in them. Thus it is even riskier to download any attachments that come with emails like these.

Another option for ransom hunters is a Trojan virus model1. A Trojan is an object that gets into your computer disguised as something else. For instance, you download an installer of some program you need or an update for some program. However, what is unboxed reveals itself a harmful program that encodes your data. As the update package can have any title and any icon, you’d better be sure that you can trust the resource of the things you’re downloading. The optimal thing is to trust the software companies’ official websites.

As for the peer networks like torrent trackers or eMule, the danger is that they are even more trust-based than the rest of the Internet. You can never guess what you download until you get it. So you’d better be using trustworthy websites. Also, it is reasonable to scan the folder containing the downloaded files with the antivirus as soon as the downloading is complete.

How to remove the Doyuk virus?

It is crucial to inform you that besides encrypting your data, the Doyuk virus will most likely install the Azorult Spyware on your computer to seize your credentials to various accounts (including cryptocurrency wallets). That program can extract your credentials from your browser’s auto-filling cardfile.

Sometimes tamperers would decrypt few of your files to prove that they do have the decryption program. As Doyuk virus is a relatively recent ransomware, security software developers have not yet found a method to undo its work. Nevertheless, the decoding tools are constantly updated, so the solution may soon arrive.

Sure thing, if the evildoers do the job of encrypting someone’s essential files, the hopeless person will probably fulfill their demands. However, paying a ransom gives no guarantee that you’re getting your data back. It is still risky. After obtaining the money, the racketeers may deliver a wrong decryption code to the victim. There were reports of malefactors just disappearing after getting the ransom without even bothering to reply.

The best countermeasure to ransomware is to have aan OS restore point or the copies of your essential files in the cloud storage or at least on an external disk. Of course, that might be not enough. The most crucial thing could be that one you were working upon when it all started. But at least it is something. It is also wise to scan your PC for viruses with the antivirus program after the OS is rolled back.

Doyuk is not the only ransomware of its kind, since there are other specimens of ransomware out there that act in the same manner. Examples of those are Hr1wf, Wixawm, Blue, and some others. The two main differences between them and the Doyuk are the ransom amount and the encoding method. The rest is the same: files become encrypted, their extensions altered, ransom notes are found in each folder containing encrypted files.

Some fortunate victims were able to decode the blocked files with the aid of the free software provided by anti-malware developers. Sometimes the hackers mistakenly send the decryption key to the victims in the ransom readme. Such an extraordinary fail allows the injured part to restore the files. But naturally, one should never expect such a chance. Remember, ransomware is a tamperers’ technology to pull the money out of their victims.

How to avert ransomware infection?

Doyuk ransomware has no superpower, neither does any similar malware.

You can armour yourself from its attack taking several easy steps:

  • Never open any letters from unknown mailers with unknown addresses, or with content that has nothing to do with something you are waiting for (how can you win in a lottery without participating in it?). In case the email subject is likely something you are waiting for, scrutinize all elements of the questionable email carefully. A hoax letter will surely have a mistake.
  • Do not use cracked or untrusted software. Trojans are often distributed as a part of cracked products, possibly under the guise of “patch” to prevent the license check. Understandably, dubious programs are very hard to distinguish from reliable software, as trojans sometimes have the functionality you seek. Try searching for information on this software product on the anti-malware forums, but the best solution is not to use such software.
  • And to be sure about the safety of the files you downloaded, check them with GridinSoft Anti-Malware. This program will be a powerful defense for your personal computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

🤔 How can I open “.doyuk” files? Are the “.doyuk” files accessible?

Unfortunately, no. You need to decipher the “.doyuk” files first. Then you will be able to open them.

🤔 The encrypted files are very important to me. How can I decrypt them quickly?

It’s good if you have fаr-sightedly saved copies of these important files elsewhere. Otherwise, you might try to employ System Restore. The only question is whether you have saved any Restore Points that would be helpful now. All other solutions require time.

🤔 Will GridinSoft Anti-Malware remove all the encrypted files alongside the Doyuk virus?

Of course not. Unlike the ransomware program itself, the encrypted files do not jeopardize your system.

With the help of GridinSoft Anti-Malware, you can clean your system off the actual viruses. The ransomware that has infiltrated your PC is most likely still functional and launching checks from time to time to encrypt any new files you might create on your PC after the infection. As it has already been said, the Doyuk ransomware does not come alone. It installs backdoors and keyloggers that can steal your account credentials and provide hackers with easy access to your computer after some time.

🤔 What should I do if the Doyuk malware has blocked my PC and I can’t get the activation key.

If that happened, you need to prepare a flash memory card with a pre-installed Trojan Killer. Use Safe Mode to execute the procedure. You see, the ransomware starts automatically as the system boots and encrypts any new files created or brought into your machine. To suppress this function – use Safe Mode, which allows only the essential programs to run automatically. Consider reading our manual on booting Windows in Safe Mode.

🤔 And what should I do now?

Many of the encoded files might still be at your disposal

  • If you exchanged your critical files through email, you could still download them from your online mailbox.
  • You might have shared images or videos with your friends or relatives. Just ask them to send those images back to you.
  • If you have initially got any of your files from the Internet, you can try downloading them again.
  • Your messengers, social networks pages, and cloud drives might have all those files as well.
  • Maybe you still have the needed files on your old computer, a portable device, mobile, flash memory, etc.

USEFUL TIP: You can employ file recovery utilities4 to retrieve your lost information since ransomware blocks the copies of your files, deleting the authentic ones. In the video below, you can see how to recover your files with PhotoRec, but remember: you can do it only after you kill the virus with an anti-malware program.

Also, you can contact the following official fraud and scam sites to report this attack:

To report the attack, you can contact local executive boards. For instance, if you live in USA, you can have a talk with FBI Local field office, IC3 or Secret Service.
