What are Tropi.fun pop-ups?

Tropi.fun popups are a consequence of adware action. Adware is a sort of malware that suggests you the pay-per-view of pay-per-click ads, which generates a massive volume of income for adware distributors. These promotions may contain explicit content, or have a link to malevolent content/website, considering that adware maintainers have no purpose to check the goodness of the content they are going to show – their single target is cash.

Pop-up promotions itself is an excellent, affordable and extremely effective marketing tool1. It allows the seller to link the customers’ interest to their site, as well as the customers to receive the dynamic updates on the goods they wish to buy. When the customer will receive a pop-up alert that the TV set he wishes to buy is provided at the online store he/she saw earlier with a 15% price cut, one will definitely use this opportunity and purchase it. Considering the extremely low price for the popups and their targeting, such an advertising method is a favorite thing amidst the marketing teams of huge online retail stores.

However, such a rewarding plan could not be missed by virus developers. Ability to show the popup ads by force to the targets of malware attack is a great basis for evil-minded manipulations with the popup advertisements. And Tropi.fun advertisements is among hundreds that are “employed” in this scheme.

How have I got the Tropi.fun virus?

There are a lot of ways of becoming contaminated by the adware that trigger the Tropi.fun popups tornado. A lion’s part of this virus incidents is after the free software or cracked programs, that are spread on the peering networks. Freeware can also be downloaded from the official site, and the adware is delivered as a legitimate bundled program.

There is no need to blame yourself. A lot of people regularly work with the dubious programs from untrusted providers: abandonware, different tools that are free of cost, and even hacked programs. Every one of these kinds of software are dangerous, due to the fact that it is very simple to integrate a Tropi.fun malware under the guise of part of the license hacking script, or as a part of the self-made algoritm within the Windows optimization tool.

Tropi.fun popup virus can likewise be hidden in the advertisement somewhere on the odd web page. Such websites are typically full of colorful and blinking advertisements, and their owners typically approve any promos to be published on their web page. For this reason, clicking such banners is a risky thing: only the advertisement provider knows what will occur when you press this advertisement. Besides some “light” viruses, like adware or unwanted programs, you can likewise get something a lot more hazardous, like ransomware or coin miner; the large share of coin miners circulation is exactly after the malicious ads.

People dislike popups

The statistic shows that people dislike popup advertising more than other types of promotions

Potentially unwanted programs, like Tropi.fun popup virus can cause a lot of different problems on your personal computer. Distracting is not the single effect – pop-ups may present you the banners, where you are offered to download one more unknown program, or “a effective anti-malware tool”. Scareware is often spread with the use of the last motto. Potentially undesirable programs, in turn, may have spyware functionality. And it is quite hard to distinguish the unwanted app from a legit one, if you don’t know the exact names. Besides the potentially unwanted programs and pseudo antiviruses, popup-related advertisements are also chosen as a spreading way by various trojan viruses, for instance – coin miners. The consequences of actions of such malware is 100% unpleasant, and can cost you several hundreds of dollars. And even if you are not interacting with these advertisements, they can be clicked by someone who also makes use of your computer – parents, children, spouse, etc. So the situation may become much more serious, and it will be much harder to deal with it without data loss. It is recommended to get rid of the viruses with antivirus applications as soon as possible.

How can I get rid of Tropi.fun pop-up advertisements?

The guide of Tropi.fun adware removal includes 2 sections. First, we need to get rid of the malware, and then fix the consequences of its activity. The elimination process is really easy, because it may be done even with using Microsoft Defender – anti-malware software that is available on all computers with Windows 8/10. However, as a result of its significant resources consumption, along with some problems that may be serious for some groups of users, Defender is oftentimes turned off by the users, so its usage is most likely impossible. What’s more, different trojan viruses can turn off the embedded antivirus. It is much better to make use of the separated program that will not have such exposures.

When the browsers are reset, you need to ensure that your web browser will definitely connect the correct DNS while connecting to the site you want. Create a text file named “hosts” on your computer’s desktop, then open it and fill it with the following lines3:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Find the hosts.txt file in C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc directory. Rename this file to “hosts.old.txt” (to distinguish it from the new one), and then move the file you created on the desktop to this folder. Remove the hosts.old from this folder. Now you have your hosts file as good as new.

Nonetheless, there is one issue that makes things a lot harder to repair, especially without the anti-malware program. A lot of adware versions that are used to show you the Tropi.fun pop-up promotions are modifying the deep browser settings, disabling an access to the settings tab. So, if you attempt to fix your browser settings after your computer was penetrated by pop-up-related malware, your browser will collapse soon. In some cases, you will see no crash, but large lag spike after pressing the “settings” key. Browser will stop responding for ~ 30 secs, and then it will be back to the typical, till you try to open settings once more.
