T800 Virus Files of Ransomware — How to remove virus?

Written by Brendan Smith
The T800 virus falls under the ransomware type of malicious agent. A harmful program of this type encrypts all user’s data on the computer (photos, text files, excel sheets, audio files, videos, etc) and appends its extra extension to every file, leaving the !!!HOW_TO_DECRYPT!!!.txt text files in each directory containing encrypted files.

T800 virus: what is known so far?

☝️ A strictly correct denomination for the T800 is “a ransomware infection”.

T800 adds its own .t800 extension to every file’s name. For instance, an image named “photo.jpg” will be turned into “photo.jpg.t800”. Likewise, the Excel file named “table.xlsx” will be altered to “table.xlsx.t800”, and so forth.

In every folder with the encrypted files, a !!!HOW_TO_DECRYPT!!!.txt file will be found. It is a ransom money memo. It contains information on the ways of contacting the racketeers and some other remarks. The ransom note usually contains a description of how to purchase the decryption tool from the racketeers. That is it.

In the screenshot below, you can see what a folder with files encrypted by the T800 looks like. Each filename has the “.t800” extension added to it.

How did my computer get infected with T800 ransomware?

There are many possible ways of ransomware injection.

Nowadays, there are three most exploited ways for malefactors to have the T800 virus settled in your system. These are email spam, Trojan infiltration and peer file transfer.

If you access your mailbox and see letters that look just like notifications from utility services companies, postal agencies like FedEx, web-access providers, and whatnot, but whose “from” field is unknown to you, beware of opening those letters. They are most likely to have a ransomware file enclosed in them. Thus it is even more dangerous to download any attachments that come with emails like these.

Another option for ransom hunters is a Trojan file scheme1. A Trojan is a program that infiltrates into your machine disguised as something legal. For example, you download an installer of some program you need or an update for some software. But what is unpacked reveals itself a harmful program that corrupts your data. As the update file can have any title and any icon, you’d better be sure that you can trust the source of the files you’re downloading. The optimal thing is to use the software developers’ official websites.

As for the peer-to-peer networks like torrent trackers or eMule, the danger is that they are even more trust-based than the rest of the Internet. You can never know what you download until you get it. So you’d better be using trustworthy websites. Also, it is a good idea to scan the folder containing the downloaded files with the anti-malware utility as soon as the downloading is done.

How do I get rid of the T800 virus?

It is crucial to note that besides encrypting your data, the T800 virus will most likely install the Azorult Spyware on your computer to seize your credentials to various accounts (including cryptocurrency wallets). The mentioned spyware2 can derive your logins and passwords from your browser’s auto-filling cardfile.

Sometimes criminals would decrypt some of your files to prove that they really have the decryption tool. Since T800 virus is a relatively new ransomware, safety measures engineers have not yet found a method to undo its work. However, the decryption instruments are frequently upgraded, so the effective countermeasure may soon arrive.

Of course, if the hackers do the job of encrypting victim’s critical files, the desperate person will most likely comply with their demands. However, paying to criminals gives no guarantee that you’re getting your files back. It is still dangerous. After getting the money, the racketeers may send a wrong decryption key to the victim. There were reports about hackers just vanishing after getting the ransom without even bothering to reply.

The best countermeasure to ransomware is to have aan OS restore point or the copies of your critical files in the cloud drive or at least on an external disk. Surely, that might be not enough. The most important thing could be that file you were working on when it all went down. But at least it is something. It is also reasonable to scan your PC for viruses with the antivirus program after the system is rolled back.

There are other ransomware products, besides T800, that work similarly. Examples of those are Bbbw, Maiv, Cuag, and some others. The two major differences between them and the T800 are the ransom amount and the encoding method. The rest is the same: files become encoded, their extensions altered, ransom notes appear in each directory containing encrypted files.

Some fortunate users were able to decode the arrested files with the help of the free software provided by anti-ransomware specialists. Sometimes the racketeers mistakenly send the decryption code to the victims in the ransom readme. Such an extraordinary fail allows the victim to restore the files. But obviously, one should never rely on such a chance. Remember, ransomware is a tamperers’ instrument to lay their hands on the money of their victims.

How to avoid ransomware injection?

T800 ransomware has no superpower, so as any similar malware.

You can defend your computer from its infiltration in three easy steps:

  • Ignore any letters from unknown senders with strange addresses, or with content that has nothing to do with something you are waiting for (can you win in a lottery without participating in it?). In case the email subject is more or less something you are waiting for, check all elements of the dubious letter with caution. A fake email will surely have a mistake.
  • Never use cracked or unknown software. Trojans are often shared as a part of cracked products, most likely as a “patch” to prevent the license check. But dubious programs are difficult to tell from reliable software, because trojans sometimes have the functionality you need. You can try searching for information on this software product on the anti-malware message boards, but the best solution is not to use such software.
  • And finally, to be sure about the safety of the objects you downloaded, use GridinSoft Anti-Malware. This program will be a perfect shield for your system.

  • If you have initially downloaded any of your files from the Web, you can try downloading them again.
  • Your messengers, social media pages, and cloud drives might have all those files too.
  • Maybe you still have the needed files on your old PC, a laptop, mobile, memory stick, etc.

USEFUL TIP: You can employ file recovery utilities5 to retrieve your lost information since ransomware encodes the copies of your files, removing the original ones. In the video below, you can learn how to recover your files with PhotoRec, but remember: you won’t be able to do it before you eradicate the virus with an antivirus program.
