What are Getflowext pop-ups?

Getflowext popups are a result of adware presence. Adware is a type of malware that shows you the pay-per-view of pay-per-click ads, which creates a major amount of earnings for adware representatives. These ads might include explicit information, or have a web link to harmful content/website, due to the fact that adware maintainers have no reason to check the goodness of the content they are going to reveal – their single target is money.

Pop-up promotions itself is an excellent, cheap and very successful advertising method1. It permits the seller to attach the customers’ attention to their website, as well as the buyers to receive the dynamic updates on the goods they intend to buy. When the customer will receive a pop-up notification that the TV set he desires to buy is provided at the online store he/she saw previously with a 15% discount, one will surely use this opportunity and get it. Taking into consideration the very low price for the popups and their targeting, such a promotion and marketing tool is a favorite thing among the marketing departments of large internet retail stores.

However, such a profitable system could not be missed by virus developers. Ability to demonstrate the popup ads by force to the people of malware invasion is an ideal basis for evil-minded manipulations with the popup promotions. And Getflowext.com promotions is just one of hundreds that are “employed” in this system.

How have I got the Getflowext virus?

There are a plenty of methods of getting infected by the adware that cause the Getflowext popups tornado. A lion’s part of this virus cases is after the freeware or cracked programs, that are distributed on the peering networks. Freeware may also be downloaded from the official web page, and the adware is supplied as a legit bundled program.

There is no need to blame yourself. A lot of users often work with the unreliable programs from untrusted providers: abandonware, various apps that are free of cost, or even hacked programs. Every one of these kinds of programs are risky, due to the fact that it is quite easy to build in a Getflowext malware under the cover of part of the license hacking script, or as a component of the self-made algoritm within the Windows optimization tool.

Getflowext popup malware can also be hidden in the advertisement somewhere on the odd site. Such web pages are in most cases filled with intense and blinking ads, and their owners often permit any type of promos to be published on their web page. Therefore, clicking on such banners is a shot in the dark: only the ad provider knows what will happen when you press this advertisement. Besides some “light” viruses, like adware or unwanted programs, you may also get something a lot more threatening, like ransomware or coin miner; the big share of coin miners circulation is exactly after the malicious ads.

People dislike popups

The statistic shows that people dislike popup advertising more than other types of promotions

Potentially undesirable programs, like Getflowext pop-up virus can cause a lot of problems on your PC. Distracting is not the single problem – pop-up notifications may display you the advertisements, where you are offered to get one more dubious program, or “a amazing anti-malware tool”. Scareware is often distributed with the last slogun. Potentially unwanted applications, in turn, can have spyware functions. And it is quite hard to distinguish the unwanted app from a legit one, if you don’t know the exact names. Besides the potentially unwanted programs and fake antiviruses, popup-related ads are also used as a spreading way by various trojan viruses, for example – coin miners. The consequences of activity of such malware is 100% unpleasant, and can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. And even if you are not interacting with these promotions, they may be clicked by someone who also uses your computer – parents, children, spouse, etc. So the things can become much more serious, and it will be much harder to deal with it without data loss. It is recommended to wipe out the viruses with antivirus programs as soon as possible.

How can I get rid of Getflowext pop-up advertisements?

The guide of Getflowext adware removal contains 2 sections. Initially, we need to eliminate the malware, and afterwards take care of the results of its action. The removal task is very easy, since it can be done even with using Microsoft Defender – anti-virus tool that is present on all personal computers with Windows 8/10. Nonetheless, because of its huge resources utilization, along with some failures that may be pivotal for some types of users, Defender is oftentimes turned off by the users, so its usage is most likely impossible. In addition, various trojan viruses can shut off the embedded antivirus. It is far better to make use of the separated program that will not have such exposures.

I’d suggest you to use Gridinsoft Anti-Malware2 – a well-proven antivirus tool that will certainly eliminate the viruses from your personal computer and also make an invulnerable cover with a Proactive protection feature. But let’s deal with Getflowext adware initially.

When the browsers are reset, you need to make sure that your browser will definitely connect the accurate DNS while connecting to the web page you need. Make a text file titled “hosts” on your computer’s desktop, then open it and fill it with the following content3:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Find the hosts.txt file in C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc directory. Rename this file to “hosts.old.txt” (to distinguish it from the new one), and then move the file you created on the desktop to this folder. Remove the hosts.old from this folder. Now you have your hosts file as good as new.

However, there is one issue that makes things much more difficult to restore, particularly without the anti-malware program. The majority of adware variations that are used to show you the Getflowext pop-up ads are changing the deep browser configurations, disabling an access to the settings tab. So, if you attempt to change your browser settings after your PC was penetrated by pop-up-related malware, your browser will certainly crash quickly. In certain cases, you will see no crash, but significant lag spike after pushing the “settings” key. Browser will stop reacting for ~ 30 secs, and then it will be back to the typical, till you attempt to open settings one more time.
