What are 654.pl pop-ups?

654.pl popups are a consequence of adware presence. Adware is a type of malware that presents you the pay-per-view of pay-per-click advertisements, which generates a major amount of income for adware suppliers. These advertisements might contain explicit content, or have a web link to malevolent content/website, since adware maintainers have no purpose to inspect the goodness of the material they are going to reveal – their single target is cash.

Pop-up marketing itself is a very good, affordable and also extremely successful advertising solution1. It allows the seller to link the customers’ attention to their site, and the customers to receive the dynamic updates on the goods they wish to buy. When the consumer will get a pop-up alert that the TV set he wishes to purchase is offered at the online store he/she checked out earlier with a 15% discount, one will undoubtedly use this opportunity and get it. Taking into consideration the incredibly low cost for the popups and their targeting, such an advertising instrument is a favourite thing amongst the marketing departments of big internet retail stores.

Nonetheless, such a successful scheme could not be missed by virus creators. Ability to show the popup advertisements forcibly to the targets of malware invasion is a great basis for evil-minded tricks with the popup advertisements. And 654.pl advertisements is one of hundreds that are “employed” in this scheme.

There are a plenty of ways of getting infected by the adware that trigger the 654.pl popups tornado. A lion’s part of this malware incidents is after the free software or cracked programs, that are distributed on the peering networks. Free software may also be downloaded from the official site, and the adware is delivered as a legit bundled program.

There is no need to blame yourself. A plenty of users often use the unreliable programs from untrusted sources: abandonware, a wide range of apps that are free, or even hacked programs. All of these kinds of software are risky, because it is quite easy to integrate a 654.pl malware under the cover of part of the license hacking script, or as a part of the self-made algoritm inside of the Windows optimization tool.

654.pl popup malware may also be hidden in the ad somewhere on the unusual web page. Such web pages are usually packed with colorful and blinking advertisements, and their proprietors generally permit any promotions to be published on their page. Thus, clicking on such banners is a shot in the dark: only the ad provider knows what will happen when you click this ad. Besides some “light” viruses, like adware or undesirable programs, you can also receive something a lot more threatening, like ransomware or coin miner; the large share of coin miners distribution is exactly after the malicious ads.

Potentially undesirable programs, like 654.pl popup virus may cause a variety of different problems on your PC. And it is quite hard to distinguish the undesirable app from a good one, if you don’t know the exact names. Besides the PUPs and dubious antiviruses, popup-related advertisements are also used as a spreading way by various trojan viruses, for instance – coin miners. The consequences of activity of such malware is 100% unwanted, and can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. And even if you are not tapping these ads, they can be clicked by someone who also uses your personal computer – parents, children, spouse, etc. So the things can become much more serious, and it will be much harder to solve it without data and money loss. It is recommended to wipe out the viruses with anti-malware applications as soon as possible.

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
