What are Viddetect pop-ups?

Viddetect popups are an effect of adware action. Adware is a sort of malware that demonstrates to you the pay-per-view of pay-per-click ads, which produces a large amount of income for adware representatives. These promotions may include explicit information, or have a web link to harmful content/website, since adware maintainers have no reason to inspect the goodness of the web content they are going to reveal – their solitary target is money.

Pop-up promotions itself is a very good, low-priced and also really efficient marketing instrument1. It permits the seller to link the customers’ attention to their website, as well as the buyers to receive the dynamic updates on the goods they wish to buy. When the person will get a pop-up notification that the TV set he likes to purchase is provided at the online store he/she saw previously with a 15% discount, one will undoubtedly use this possibility and purchase it. Taking into consideration the exceptionally small cost for the popups and their targeting, such a promotion and marketing tool is a favorite thing among the advertising teams of huge online sellers.

Nevertheless, such a profitable scheme could not be missed by virus creators. Potential to show the popup ads forcibly to the people of malware invasion is an ideal basis for malicious adjustments with the popup promotions. And Viddetect.com promotions is one of hundreds that are “employed” in this scheme.

How have I got the Viddetect virus?

There are a number of ways of becoming contaminated by the adware that result in the Viddetect popups storm. A lion’s part of this computer virus incidents is after the free software or cracked programs, that are spread on the peering networks. Freeware may additionally be downloaded from the main web page, and the adware is supplied as a legitimate bundled program.

There is no need to blame yourself. A plenty of people often make use of the dubious programs from untrusted providers: abandonware, a wide range of utilities that are free, or perhaps hacked programs. Every one of these kinds of software are risky, since it is very easy to include a Viddetect malware under the cover of part of the license hacking script, or as a component of the self-made algoritm within the Windows optimization tool.

Viddetect popup virus may additionally be hidden in the ad somewhere on the odd site. Such sites are generally loaded with colorful and blinking ads, and their owners often accept any kind of promos to be published on their page. Hence, clicking on such banners is a shot in the dark: only the ad provider knows what will happen when you press this ad. Besides some “light” viruses, like adware or undesirable programs, you may also receive something a lot more risky, like ransomware or coin miner; the big share of coin miners distribution is exactly after the malicious ads.

People dislike popups

The statistic shows that people dislike popup advertising more than other types of promotions

Potentially unwanted programs, like Viddetect popup virus can initiate a variety of troubles on your personal computer. Distracting is not the single effect – pop-ups may display you the banners, where you are offered to get one more dubious application, or “a effective anti-malware tool”. Scareware is usually distributed under the last motto. Potentially undesirable applications, in turn, may have spyware functions. And it is pretty hard to distinguish the undesirable app from a legit one, if you don’t know the exact names. Besides the PUPs and dubious antiviruses, popup-related banners are also chosen as a distribution way by different trojan viruses, for example – coin miners. The consequences of actions of such viruses is 100% unwanted, and can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. And even if you are not clicking these advertisements, they may be clicked by whoever who also uses your personal computer – parents, children, spouse, etc. So the things can become much more serious, and it will be much harder to solve it without data and money loss. It is recommended to eliminate the viruses with anti-malware programs as soon as possible.

How can I get rid of Viddetect pop-up advertisements?

The guide of Viddetect adware elimination contains 2 sections. First, we need to remove the malware, and then correct the consequences of its action. The elimination procedure is very simple, since it may be executed even with using Microsoft Defender – anti-malware program that is available on all computers with Windows 8/10. Nevertheless, due to its significant resources utilization, along with some failures that can be crucial for some groups of users, Defender is often disabled by the users, so its use is probably impossible. What’s more, various trojan viruses are capable to disable the embedded antivirus. It is better to make use of the separated program that will not have such vulnerabilities.

I would certainly suggest you to use Gridinsoft Anti-Malware2 – a well-proven security device that will undoubtedly wipe out the malware from your PC and make an invulnerable cover with a Proactive protection feature. However, let’s manage Viddetect adware first.

When the web browsers are reset, you need to make sure that your web browser will be connected the correct DNS while connecting to the site you want. Make a text file titled “hosts” on your desktop, then open it and fill it with the following content3:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Find the hosts.txt file in C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc directory. Rename this file to “hosts.old.txt” (to distinguish it from the new one), and then move the file you created on the desktop to this folder. Remove the hosts.old from this folder. Now you have your hosts file as good as new.

Nonetheless, there is one problem that makes the things much harder to fix, especially without the anti-malware program. The majority of adware variants that are used to show you the Viddetect pop-up ads are altering the deep browser setups, disabling an access to the settings tab. So, if you attempt to change your browser settings after your computer was penetrated by pop-up-related malware, your browser will certainly collapse quickly. In some cases, you will see no crash, but significant lag spike after pressing the “settings” key. Browser will stop reacting for ~ 30 seconds, and then it will be back to the typical, until you try to open settings once more.
