What are Security-error pop-ups?

Security-error popups are a consequence of adware activity. Adware is a sort of malware that suggests you the pay-per-view of pay-per-click ads, which generates a substantial volume of revenue for adware distributors. These advertisements may include explicit composition, or have a link to malicious content/website, because adware maintainers have no purpose to inspect the goodness of the material they are going to reveal – their solitary target is cash.

Pop-up marketing itself is an excellent, low-cost and also very productive advertising method1. It permits the seller to attach the buyers’ attention to their website, and the customers to receive the dynamic updates on the goods they wish to buy. When the consumer will get a pop-up notification that the TV set he likes to buy is offered at the online shop he/she saw earlier with a 15% discount, one will surely use this possibility and get it. Taking into consideration the very low price for the popups and their targeting, such a promotion and marketing method is a much-loved thing amongst the marketing departments of large internet retail stores.

Nevertheless, such a successful plan could not be missed by virus creators. Potential to demonstrate the popup advertisements forcibly to the victims of malware invasion is a great basis for malicious adjustments with the popup advertisements. And Security-error.com advertisements is one of hundreds that are “employed” in this system.

How have I got the Security-error virus?

There are a huge amount of ways of becoming infected by the adware that lead to the Security-error popups storm. A lion’s part of this virus instances is after the freeware or cracked programs, that are spread on the peering networks. Freeware may likewise be downloaded from the official website, and the adware is presented as a legit bundled program.

There is no need to blame yourself. A plenty of users oftentimes work with the uncertain programs from untrusted sources: abandonware, different tools that are free of cost, or even hacked programs. All of these kinds of programs are dangerous, since it is quite easy to integrate a Security-error malware under the cover of part of the license hacking script, or as a component of the self-made algoritm within the Windows optimization tool.

Security-error popup malware may also be hidden in the ad somewhere on the odd website. Such web pages are typically packed with bright and blinking advertisements, and their owners usually approve any type of promos to be published on their web page. Hence, clicking on such banners is a risky thing: only the advertisement provider realizes what will happen when you click this advertisement. Besides some “light” viruses, like adware or undesirable programs, you can additionally receive something far more hazardous, like ransomware or coin miner; the substantial share of coin miners distribution is exactly after the malicious promotions.

People dislike popups

The statistic shows that people dislike popup advertising more than other types of promotions

Potentially unwanted programs, like Security-error pop-up virus can cause a wide range of different troubles on your personal computer. Distracting is not the only effect – pop-ups may display you the ads, where you are offered to download another dubious application, or “a amazing anti-malware tool”. Scareware is often spread under the last slogun. Potentially undesirable programs, in turn, may have spyware functionality. And it is pretty hard to distinguish the undesirable app from a normal one, if you don’t know the exact names. Besides the potentially unwanted programs and fake antiviruses, popup-related advertisements are also exploited as a spreading way by various trojan viruses, for example – coin miners. The consequences of actions of such malware is 100% unwanted, and can cost you several hundreds of dollars. And even if you are not tapping these banners, they may be clicked by someone who also uses your personal computer – parents, children, spouse, etc. So the situation can become much more serious, and it will be much harder to solve it without data loss. It is recommended to get rid of the viruses with antivirus programs as soon as possible.

How can I get rid of Security-error pop-up advertisements?

The manual of Security-error adware clearing consists of 2 parts. Initially, we need to get rid of the malware, and afterwards correct the consequences of its activity. The removal procedure is very simple, because it can be done even with using Microsoft Defender – anti-malware tool that is available on all computers with Windows 8/10. Nevertheless, because of its significant resources consumption, along with some defects that can be pivotal for some types of individuals, Defender is oftentimes disabled by the users, so its use is probably impossible. What’s more, a variety of trojan viruses are able to disable the embedded antivirus. It is better to make use of the separated program that will not have such vulnerabilities.

When the web browsers are reset, you need to make sure that your browser will be connected the right DNS while connecting to the web page you need. Make a text file titled “hosts” on your desktop, then open it and fill it with the following text3:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
