What are Lodtis pop-ups?

Quick reference

This article on “top 3 ways to make a quick and cheap clicker for your Facebook Page” is our first attempt to put together some of the better free ad solutions as part of The Marketing Department’s 2017 Sponsorship List. We also tried to cover some really great solutions and they have been extremely helpful. But, let’s not forget the following.

The best thing you can do to maximize your chances of getting free pop-ups is to have a strong sense and a basic understanding of how the customer will respond to your product. For instance, you can have a friend who you trust who wants to learn more about your product then he/she has the time to see it.

Lodtis popups are an effect of adware activity. Adware is a sort of malware that shows you the pay-per-view of pay-per-click promotions, which generates a massive volume of income for adware suppliers. These promotions might contain sometimes shocking information, or have a link to malicious content/website, since adware maintainers have no purpose to check the goodness of the material they are going to reveal – their single target is money.

Pop-up promotions itself is an excellent, low-cost and very effective advertising solution1. It allows the vendor to attach the buyers’ attention to their website, as well as the buyers to get the dynamic updates on the goods they intend to buy. When the person will get a pop-up notification that the TV set he wishes to buy is available at the online store he/she visited previously with a 15% discount, one will undoubtedly use this chance and buy it. Considering the incredibly low price for the popups and their targeting, such a promotion and marketing instrument is a favourite thing amongst the advertising departments of large internet retailers.

Nevertheless, such a rewarding scheme could not be missed by malware developers. Ability to show the popup ads by force to the targets of malware attack is a perfect basis for malicious manipulations with the popup promotions. And Lodtis.com promotions is among hundreds that are “employed” in this system.

How have I got the Lodtis virus?

There are a huge amount of methods of getting contaminated by the adware that create the Lodtis popups tornado. A lion’s part of this virus cases is after the free software or cracked programs, that are distributed on the peering networks. Freeware may additionally be downloaded from the main site, and the adware is offered as a legitimate bundled program.

There is no need to blame yourself. A plenty of people oftentimes use the unreliable programs from untrusted sources: abandonware, various apps that are free, and even hacked programs. Every one of these kinds of software are risky, because it is quite easy to build in a Lodtis malware under the guise of part of the license hacking script, or as a component of the self-made algoritm within the Windows optimization tool.

Lodtis popup virus may likewise be concealed in the advertisement somewhere on the odd site. Such websites are typically full of intense and blinking ads, and their proprietors often permit any kind of promos to be placed on their page. Hence, clicking on such banners is a shot in the dark: only the advertisement contractor realizes what will happen when you press this ad. Besides some “light” viruses, like adware or undesirable programs, you can likewise get something far more threatening, like ransomware or coin miner; the substantial share of coin miners circulation is exactly after the malicious ads.

People dislike popups

The statistic shows that people dislike popup advertising more than other types of promotions

Potentially unwanted applications, like Lodtis pop-up virus can cause a variety of different troubles on your personal computer. Distracting is not the single problem – pop-ups may show you the advertisements, where you are offered to get one more unknown application, or “a amazing security tool”. Scareware is usually spread with the use of the last motto. Potentially unwanted programs, in turn, may have spyware functionality. And it is pretty hard to distinguish the undesirable app from a normal one, if you don’t know the exact names. Besides the potentially unwanted programs and fake antiviruses, popup-related advertisements are also chosen as a spreading method by different trojan viruses, for example – coin miners. The consequences of activity of such viruses is 100% unpleasant, and can cost you several hundreds of dollars. And even if you are not clicking these advertisements, they may be clicked by whoever who also uses your personal computer – parents, children, spouse, etc. So the situation can become much more serious, and it will be much harder to deal with it without information loss. It is recommended to remove the viruses with antivirus programs as soon as possible.

How can I get rid of Lodtis pop-up advertisements?

The guide of Lodtis adware clearing consists of 2 sections. Initially, we need to eliminate the malware, and afterwards take care of the results of its activity. The elimination process is very easy, due to the fact that it may be performed even with the use of Microsoft Defender – anti-virus program that is available on all personal computers with Windows 8/10. However, due to its large resources usage, as well as some defects that may be crucial for some groups of users, Defender is oftentimes disabled by the users, so its use is most likely impossible. When the web browsers are reset, you need to ensure that your browser will connect the correct DNS while connecting to the web page you need. Make a text file titled “hosts” on your computer’s desktop, after that open it and fill it with the following lines3:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Find the hosts.txt file in C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc directory. Rename this file to “hosts.old.txt” (to distinguish it from the new one), and then move the file you created on the desktop to this folder. Remove the hosts.old from this folder. Now you have your hosts file as good as new.

However, there is one trouble that makes the things a lot harder to fix, specifically without the anti-malware program. Most of adware variants that are used to show you the Lodtis pop-up promotions are changing the deep browser configurations, disabling an access to the settings tab. So, if you try to change your browser settings after your PC was infected by pop-up-related malware, your browser will collapse soon. In certain cases, you will see no crash, but huge lag spike after pushing the “settings” key. Browser will stop reacting for ~ 30 secs, and then it will be back to the normal, till you try to open settings one more time.
