What are Imendocals pop-ups?

Imendocals popups are a consequence of adware presence. Adware is a type of malware that shows you the pay-per-view of pay-per-click ads, which creates a large amount of income for adware suppliers. These promotions may contain explicit content, or have a link to malevolent content/website, considering that adware maintainers have no reason to examine the goodness of the content they are going to reveal – their single target is money.

Pop-up marketing itself is a very good, affordable and also very productive marketing method1. It allows the vendor to link the buyers’ attention to their website, and the buyers to get the dynamic updates on the goods they intend to buy. When the consumer will get a pop-up notification that the TV set he likes to buy is available at the online shop he/she checked out earlier with a 15% discount, one will surely use this possibility and get it. Considering the very low cost for the popups and their targeting, such a marketing method is a much-loved thing amongst the advertising departments of huge online retailers.

Nevertheless, such a successful plan could not be missed by virus developers. Potential to show the popup advertisements forcibly to the targets of malware attack is an ideal basis for evil-minded manipulations with the popup promotions. And Imendocals.com promotions is just one of hundreds that are “employed” in this system.

There are a huge amount of methods of getting contaminated by the adware that cause the Imendocals popups tornado. A lion’s part of this malware cases is after the free software or cracked programs, that are spread on the peering networks. Free software may also be downloaded from the main site, and the adware is delivered as a legitimate bundled program.

There is no need to blame yourself. A number of users oftentimes work with the dubious programs from untrusted sources: abandonware, different utilities that are free, and even hacked programs. All of these sorts of applications are dangerous, since it is extremely simple to integrate a Imendocals malware under the guise of part of the license hacking script, or as a part of the self-made algoritm inside of the Windows optimization tool.

Imendocals popup malware can additionally be concealed in the promotion somewhere on the strange site. Such sites are generally packed with colorful and blinking ads, and their owners generally permit any kind of promos to be published on their web page. Therefore, clicking such banners is a risky thing: only the ad provider knows what will occur when you click this ad. Besides some “light” viruses, like adware or unwanted programs, you can likewise receive something far more hazardous, like ransomware or coin miner; the large share of coin miners distribution is exactly after the malicious promotions.

Potentially undesirable applications, like Imendocals popup virus can initiate a lot of troubles on your personal computer. Distracting is not the single effect – pop-up notifications can display you the banners, where you are offered to get one more strange application, or “a amazing anti-malware tool”. Scareware is often spread with the last slogun. Potentially unwanted programs, in turn, can have spyware functions. And it is very hard to distinguish the undesirable app from a good one, if you don’t know the exact names. Besides the potentially unwanted programs and pseudo antiviruses, popup-related banners are also chosen as a distribution way by various trojan viruses, for example – coin miners. The consequences of actions of such malware is 100% unwanted, and can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. And even if you are not interacting with these advertisements, they may be clicked by whoever who also makes use of your personal computer – parents, children, spouse, etc. So the things may become much more serious, and it will be much harder to solve it without information loss. It is recommended to get rid of the viruses with anti-malware programs as soon as possible.

The guide of Imendocals adware elimination includes 2 sections. Initially, we need to exterminate the malware, and afterwards deal with the effects of its activity. The removal procedure is quite easy, since it can be performed even with making use of Microsoft Defender – anti-virus tool that is available on all computers with Windows 8/10. When the browsers are reset, you need to ensure that your web browser will be connected the accurate DNS while connecting to the web page you need. Make a text file titled “hosts” on your computer’s desktop, then open it and fill it with the following content3:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Find the hosts.txt file in C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc directory. Rename this file to “hosts.old.txt” (to distinguish it from the new one), and then move the file you created on the desktop to this folder. Remove the hosts.old from this folder. Now you have your hosts file as good as new.

However, there is one trouble that makes things a lot more difficult to fix, especially without the anti-malware program. Most of adware variants that are used to show you the Imendocals pop-up advertisements are adjusting the deep browser settings, disabling an access to the settings tab. So, if you try to change your browser settings after your system was penetrated by pop-up-related malware, your browser will collapse quickly. In certain cases, you will see no crash, but significant lag spike after pressing the “settings” key. Browser will stop reacting for ~ 30 secs, and after that it will be back to the normal, until you attempt to open settings one more time.
