What are D0zi pop-ups?

D0zi popups are an effect of adware action. Adware is a type of malware that demonstrates to you the pay-per-view of pay-per-click advertisements, which creates a massive volume of profit for adware suppliers. These advertisements might have explicit composition, or have a link to malevolent content/website, considering that adware maintainers have no reason to check the goodness of the material they are going to reveal – their single target is cash.

Pop-up advertising itself is a very good, cheap and also very efficient advertising tool1. It enables the seller to attach the customers’ interest to their site, as well as the customers to get the dynamic updates on the goods they intend to purchase. When the consumer will receive a pop-up alert that the TV set he wishes to purchase is available at the online store he/she checked out earlier with a 15% price cut, one will definitely use this possibility and get it. Taking into consideration the incredibly low cost for the popups and their targeting, such an advertising and marketing instrument is a much-loved thing amidst the marketing departments of large internet sellers.

However, such a rewarding system could not be missed by virus creators. Ability to demonstrate the popup ads by force to the victims of malware invasion is an ideal basis for malicious tricks with the popup ads. And D0zi.com promotions is among hundreds that are “employed” in this system.

How have I got the D0zi virus?

There are a plenty of methods of becoming infected by the adware that cause the D0zi popups tornado. A lion’s part of this computer virus incidents is after the free software or cracked programs, that are distributed on the peering networks. Freeware can also be downloaded from the main site, and the adware is supplied as a legit bundled program.

There is no need to blame yourself. A number of users frequently work with the unreliable programs from untrusted providers: abandonware, different tools that are free, and even hacked programs. All of these sorts of software are dangerous, because it is quite easy to integrate a D0zi malware under the guise of part of the license hacking script, or as a component of the self-made algoritm inside of the Windows optimization tool.

D0zi popup virus can additionally be hidden in the ad somewhere on the odd web page. Such web pages are in most cases packed with intense and blinking advertisements, and their owners generally accept any kind of promos to be posted on their page. Hence, clicking on such banners is a risky thing: only the ad contractor knows what will occur when you press this advertisement. Besides some “light” viruses, like adware or unwanted programs, you may likewise get something much more threatening, like ransomware or coin miner; the substantial share of coin miners distribution is exactly after the malicious ads.

People dislike popups

The statistic shows that people dislike popup advertising more than other types of promotions

Potentially undesirable programs, like D0zi pop-up virus may initiate a lot of problems on your PC. Distracting is not the only problem – pop-up notifications may display you the promotions, where you are offered to download one more dubious program, or “a amazing anti-malware tool”. Scareware is usually distributed with the use of the last slogun. Potentially unwanted applications, in turn, may have spyware functions. And it is pretty hard to distinguish the undesirable app from a normal one, if you don’t know the exact names. Besides the potentially unwanted programs and pseudo antiviruses, popup-related advertisements are also used as a distribution method by various trojan viruses, for example – coin miners. The consequences of activity of such malware is 100% unpleasant, and can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. And even if you are not clicking these banners, they can be clicked by someone who also uses your personal computer – parents, children, spouse, etc. So the things can become much more serious, and it will be much harder to deal with it without data loss. It is recommended to get rid of the viruses with antivirus applications as soon as possible.

How can I get rid of D0zi pop-up advertisements?

The tutorial of D0zi adware removal includes 2 parts. Initially, we need to remove the malware, and after that fix the results of its action. The elimination task is quite simple, because it can be executed even with using Microsoft Defender – anti-malware tool that is present on all personal computers with Windows 8/10. Nevertheless, because of its huge resources consumption, as well as some bugs that may be serious for some groups of individuals, Defender is oftentimes disabled by the users, so its use is probably impossible. Furthermore, various trojan viruses have the ability to shut off the embedded antivirus. It is much better to make use of the separated program that will not have such vulnerabilities.

I’d recommend you to utilize Gridinsoft Anti-Malware2 – a well-proven anti-malware device that will certainly erase the malware from your PC and create an impenetrable cover with a Proactive protection feature. However, let’s deal with D0zi adware first.

When the web browsers are reset, you need to make sure that your browser will connect the correct DNS while connecting to the web page you want. Create a text file named “hosts” on your computer’s desktop, after that open it and fill it with the following content3:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Find the hosts.txt file in C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc directory. Rename this file to “hosts.old.txt” (to distinguish it from the new one), and then move the file you created on the desktop to this folder. Remove the hosts.old from this folder. Now you have your hosts file as good as new.

Nonetheless, there is one problem that makes the things much more difficult to restore, specifically without the anti-malware software. Most of adware variants that are used to show you the D0zi pop-up advertisements are adjusting the deep browser configurations, disabling an access to the settings tab. So, if you attempt to fix your browser settings after your machine was infected by pop-up-related malware, your browser will collapse quickly. In certain cases, you will see no crash, however, huge lag spike after pressing the “settings” key. Browser will stop responding for ~ 30 seconds, and then it will be back to the typical, till you try to open settings once again.
